When does the Youth Pilot Program meet?

Students come to the Plainwell Airport on Tuesdays from 3:30 to 5:00 where we study what it takes to be a pilot through ground school and aviation-related activities.

Are there other activities that the Youth Pilots participate in?

Approximately once a month usually on Saturdays, we take field trips to local aviation-related companies to show our youth what it looks like to work in an aviation-related career field.

We also participate in community aviation events such as :

  • Air Zoo Open house events

  • Other community events

Many of these events can be counted toward community service hours for school credit.

The cost for this program is $50 per month with a one time fee of $250 to purchase a flight kit for ground school studies.

Additional to this program students schedule flight instructional time with one of our certified flight instructors and work toward their private pilot certification.  This is an additional cost of $125 per hour to rent the aircraft and $35 per hour for the flight instructor. We owe and maintain our own aircraft. It is a Cessna 172.
